✏️ Worked Examples

Example 1 – 12-hour to 24-hour

Convert 3:30 pm to 24-hour clock.

It is pm, so add 12 to the hour: 3 + 12 = 15
Minutes stay the same: 30
Answer: 1530

Example 2 – Duration

A lesson starts at 9:45 and ends at 10:30. How long is it?

9:45 → 10:00 = 15 minutes
10:00 → 10:30 = 30 minutes
Total = 15 + 30 = 45 minutes

Example 3 – End time

A film starts at 14:00 and lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. What time does it end?

14:00 + 1 hour = 15:00
15:00 + 30 minutes = 15:30
Answer: 1530

Example 4 – Calendar

Mar(31) + Apr(30) + May(31) + Jun(30) + Jul(31) + Aug(31)
= 31+30+31+30+31+31 = 184 days
Counting the months: Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug = 6 months
